RDS, R-1, upgrade, 3.0, 4.0, 3.6, 3.6a, 2.6, 2.1, 2.2, 21,22, install, 3.1, 31. 2.2.a, 2.2.a., 22a, 4.0.1, 3.0.1
- RDS 2.1 and above
- R-1 3.1 and above
- Using R-1, an R-1 Center equals to RDS Controller; an R-1 Edge equals to RDS Satellite.

When upgrading RDS or R-1 with a new kit from the web, is there an upgrade method, or is it OK to install over the old one?
General upgrade comments:
- Using the Windows Console GUI, close the console before running the installation kit.
- If opened, close the Windows Services window
- The Scheduler processes will automatically be stopped and restarted by the installation.
NOTE: If you are upgrading a production network, we recommend upgrading those performing Satellite/Edges first.
NOTE: Installing or Upgrading RDS & R-1 does NOT require reboot.
Upgrading from R-1 3.3 and higher to newer R-1 versions, just install over the previous installation:
- Make sure you have the latest R-1 version.
- use the Backup & Restore feature to backup your templates, containers and licenses. please refer to the Containers and Templates location FAQ.
- Upgrade the Edges first and then server (Center) - (during Windows setup select Repair/Update to install over the previous installation. using UNIX simply install over the existing application).
- Restore your containers, templates, and your license, if needed.
Note: In some cases, after performing an upgrade, when opening the Console GUI, all jobs are in Administrative Hold. Use the Manage option, Schedule tab, and uncheck Hold all running jobs option.

It is highly recommended to upgrade to the latest version available.
