When upgrading RDS/R-1 with a new download from the web, is there an upgrade method, or is it OK to install over the old one? |

General upgrade comments:
- Using the Windows Console GUI, close the Console before running the installation kit.
- If opened, closed the Windows Services window.
- The Scheduler processes will automatically be stopped and restarted by the installation.
NOTE: If you are upgrading a production network, we recommend upgrading those performing as Satellites / Edges, first.
NOTE: Installing or Upgrading RDS & R-1 does NOT require reboot.
NOTE: The solution is version dependant.
Please select the product version you are using to review the appropriate description.
Upgrading from R-1 3.3 and higher to newer R-1 versions, just install over the previous installation:
- Make sure that you have the latest version from R-1 Download Page.
- Backup your containers, templates, and your license. Please refer to the Containers and Templates Location FAQ.
- Upgrade the Edges first and then the server (Center) - (during Windows setup select Repair/Update to install over the previous installation. Using UNIX, simply install over the existing installation).
- Restore your containers, templates, and your license, if needed.
- Read the R-1 3.4 New GUI guide.
NOTE: In some cases, after performing an upgrade, when opening the Console GUI, all jobs are in Administrative Hold. Use the Manage option, Schedule tab, and uncheck the Hold all running jobs option.
Upgrading to R-1 3.3 from earlier R-1 versions, just install over the previous installation, on both Center and Edges:
- Make sure that you have the latest version from R-1 Download Page.
- Make sure that you don't have running job(s) on the server. Put on Hold any running and scheduled jobs.
- Backup your containers, templates, and your license. Please refer to the Containers and Templates Location FAQ.
- Upgrade the Edges first and then the server (Center) - (during Windows setup select Repair/Update to install over the previous installation. Using UNIX, simply install over the existing installation).
- Restore your containers, templates, and your license, if needed.
- Continue all Scheduled and Running job that you put on Hold prior to the installation.
Upgrading from RDS 2.2 / 2.2.a to newer RDS versions, just install over the previous installation, on both Controller and Satellites:
- Make sure that you have the latest version from RDS Download Page.
- Make sure that you don't have running job(s) on the server. Put on Hold any running and scheduled jobs.
- Backup your containers, templates, and your license. Please refer to the Containers and Templates Location FAQ.
- Upgrade the Satellites first and then the server (Controller) - (During Windows setup select Repair/Update to install over the previous installation. Using UNIX, simply install over the existing installation).
- Restore your containers, templates, and your license, if needed.
- Continue all Scheduled and Running job that you put on Hold prior to the installation.
- Read the RDS 2.4 New GUI guide.
Upgrading from RDS 2.0 / 2.1 to R-1 3.3 and above, the following steps should be followed to upgrade both Controller and Satellite:
- Make sure that you have the latest version from R-1 Download Page.
- Make sure that you don't have running job(s) on the server. Abort any running and scheduled jobs.
- Backup your containers, templates, and your license. Please refer to the Containers and Templates Location FAQ.
- Uninstall previous RDS version, and install the latest R-1 version.
- Restore your containers, templates, and your license.
Upgrading from RDS 2.0 / 2.1 to RDS 2.2.a and above, the following steps should be followed to upgrade both Controller and Satellite:
- Make sure that you have the latest version from RDS Download Page.
- Make sure that you don't have running job(s) on the server. Abort any running and scheduled jobs.
- Backup your containers, templates, and your license. Please refer to the Containers and Templates Location FAQ.
- Uninstall previous RDS version, and install the latest RDS version.
- Restore your containers, templates, and your license.
