Delivery of updated content to multiple live mirror servers (i.e. web farm) running in a heterogeneous networking environment. The servers may or may not be separated by firewalls. The content consists of millions of documents, images, and streaming videos that are updated on a regular basis. Regardless of the size of the total replication source, a solution is required that will transfer the bare minimum needed to synchronize the servers. The synchronization may exclude any machine specific directories and files (i.e. logs). A guarantee that each mirror server will be synchronized independently of the others, including recovery in the case of a network or communications failure, is imperative.
The system administrator must be notified of the status of the content deployment, success or otherwise, via e-mail, and needs to be able to monitor the transfer from multiple remote locations.
The Solution: R-1 Distribution Web-Deployment Manager
R-1 is a centralized, high-level, one-to-many file distribution system, engineered to perform in complex and dynamic IP networks (LAN, WAN, Internet, eCDN, satellite based, over Unicast and Multicast). R-1 provides unattended, Center-to-Edge content deployment and synchronization that scales in volume of data, number of processes and number of target machines, employing cross-platform server environments (Microsoft WindowsTM, UNIX).
Replication time is minimized, as synchronization is no longer a function of the amount of data to be synchronized, but of the number of changes made to the data. By scheduling the legacy content to be deployed automatically through guaranteed delivery, automatic recovery, and e-mail notification, overhead is significantly reduced, allowing administrators to concentrate their efforts where needed. The entire operation can also be administered and monitored from a single Console residing on a Windows machine or a UNIX machine.
R-1 enables fast, scheduled replication and synchronization of files and directories over networks, regardless of content, volume, or production and networking environment, transparently replicating data between Windows and UNIX systems.
R-1 supplies full control over the files being replicated or excluded from the process, ranging from entire volumes, folders, to individual files or file specs.
Publishing cycle time is kept to a minimum using R-1's Comparative Snapshot Technology (CSTTM) where only the changes are transferred. Using Differential Transfer options for large files, R-1 supports block level updates of large files.
Automatic Recovery is available in case of server breakdown or network outage. Rollback enables un-doing the changes of a specific deployment to individual targets.
R-1 guarantees accurate and secured data transfer - encrypted and authenticated. Other features include control over network bandwidth usage, transparent compression of data sent over the network, and rich reporting capabilities.
